There are some really great online tools that could replace your need of everyday software as long as you have a fast internet connection. One of my favorite tools of late is the Pixlr Online image / photo editor. I guess it compares with Adobe Photoshop Elements, and, in my book, and is a fine alternative for when you're on vacation and just need to make a few quick changes to a photo before uploading to your favorite social networking site. I use PS CS3 and CS4, and sometimes I don't want to go through the hassle of opening the whole shebang just to resize or crop a photo for Facebook. Enter pixlr.com.
Similarly, I recently found the TiltShift Generator - Art&Mobile, which is actually an iPhone app, but has an online counterpart. It's named for the classic photo manipulation technique used to make images look like miniatures, but I've found that it can render nice, semi-professional vignettes to portraits.
